We are a commercial and registered Red Angus ranch located in Helmville, MT. We run around 1300 head of mother cows as well as replacements, herd bulls and development bulls. All cattle work on the ranch is done on horseback, no 4-wheelers or dogs used on cattle. We are a natural operation so we don’t use antibiotics (unless absolutely necessary and then calves are tagged and sorted off) or hormones or implants. We put up around 4000 tons of hay and we run on approximately 30,000 acres, half of it being timbered high country and the other half being bottom ground.
We are looking for a cow boss who knows what ranching is all about, is willing to put in the time needed and will take charge of the cow end of things. Duties include but are not limited to calving, branding (done on a table), doctoring, moving cattle, pasture rotation and management, fencing, working cattle, feeding cows, managing cowboys and working with the ranch manager, among other things. Knowledge of training and shoeing horses a plus. We are looking for someone who is neat, organized and willing to put in the time needed and won’t be put off by working long hours.
We provide housing whether it is the bunkhouse where room & board is provided including meals or individual housing where the utilities and beef are provided. We provide a work vehicle for work use only. Also, after a six month probationary period we provide the following benefits: employee health insurance, life insurance, long term disability insurance and sick & vacation leave. Salary is D.O.E. however it would start no lower than $2,400/month.
This position is for full time/long term, it requires a lot of hours with no scheduled days off however time is taken when things are slower. We are looking for someone who can get the job done and doesn’t need to be followed up on.
